Printing is where a custom set stops being a folder of images and becomes a deck you can shuffle. This guide covers the full route — exporting from Magic Set Editor, preparing the files, and the three realistic ways to get them onto card — for your own original designs, printed for personal use. Please…
Designing the cards is half the job; the other half is getting them out of Magic Set Editor and onto card stock without soft text, clipped borders or washed-out colour. This guide covers the MSE side of that journey and the general print concepts you will meet at any printer — kept deliberately general, because…
Let’s start with the fact that saves you an hour of menu-hunting: Magic Set Editor has no high-resolution export setting. There is no HD toggle, no DPI box, and no patch that changes this — claims of ‘600 DPI export’ that circulate online have no basis in the program or its documentation. The resolution of…
Most ‘MSE shortcuts’ lists online are copied from other lists, and some of the keys in them were never in the program. This one is different by construction: every shortcut below is taken from Magic Set Editor’s own English locale file — the file in the author’s GitHub repository that defines the program’s menus and…
Phyrexian mana — the symbols that can be paid with either mana or 2 life — is one of the most searched-for symbol types among MSE users, and the confusion around it has a simple cause: MSE does not ship a fixed symbol set. Symbols are rendered by the symbol font that belongs to your…
A colour indicator is the small coloured dot that appears on the type line of some real Magic cards. It exists for cards whose colour cannot be told from a mana cost — the classic case is the back face of a double-faced card, which has no mana cost of its own, so the dot…
Modal spells and abilities — ‘choose one —’ followed by a list of options — are where new MSE users first go looking for a bullet list button. There isn’t one on the Format menu (which covers bold, italic, symbols and reminder text), but MSE’s text system does have list support, and there is also…
The most important fact about double-faced cards (DFCs) in Magic Set Editor is also the one most guides get wrong: there is no double-faced switch in the program itself. Whether you can make a DFC depends entirely on the template pack you have installed. DFC support lives at the template layer — the frames, fields…
Your first custom set should be small on purpose. A complete, playable mini-set of 30–50 cards teaches you every part of Magic Set Editor — set setup, card editing, balancing with statistics, and exporting — without the months of work a full 250-card set demands. This walkthrough builds exactly that, in order. It assumes MSE…
Magic Set Editor (MSE) is a free, GPL-2.0 program for designing your own cards for Magic: The Gathering and other card games. This guide walks the full workflow in the order you will actually use it: create a set, choose a template, edit cards, check the set with the built-in statistics, and export the finished…
