MSE Templates: Install, Fonts, Symbols & Game Packs
Magic Set Editor’s program and its templates are separate things, maintained by separate people. The program itself is finished — the author’s last release is 2.1.2 (2020) — but the templates are alive: the community template packs were still being updated in October 2026. This hub explains how the template ecosystem works, which pack you need, and how to install it.
Who makes the templates: MagicSetEditorPacks
Community templates are published by the MagicSetEditorPacks organisation on GitHub (github.com/MagicSetEditorPacks), the template arm of the same fan community that runs magicseteditor.boards.net and distributes the 2.5.8 packages. Each pack is its own repository, so you can take a complete pack or a smaller focused one.
- Full-Magic-Pack — the complete Magic pack (152 stars; still updated, latest push 17 October 2026). Contains the
data/template folder, theMagic - Fonts/folder, and the program files themselves, so it also works as a ready-to-run integrated package. - M15-Magic-Pack — the M15-frame pack (60 stars; push 12 October 2026), for users who mainly design on the modern M15 frame.
- Basic-M15-Magic-Pack — a smaller basic M15 pack (16 stars; push 7 October 2026).
- Full-Non-Magic-Pack — every non-Magic frame (30 stars; push 11 June 2026): Yu-Gi-Oh! and the other community games, with an
Other - Fonts/folder organised by game.
The organisation also maintains a standalone Font-Pack repository and an Installer-Pack repository (push 17 October 2026) — a sign of how active this ecosystem still is, even though the program underneath it no longer changes.
How template installation works (the two-folder mechanism)
There is no template installer and no in-program template store. Installing a pack is always the same two moves:
- Copy
data/in. Extract the pack and copy itsdata/folder into your Magic Set Editor folder, next to the program file. Restart the program and the frames appear in the template choices. - Install the Fonts folder. Open the pack’s
Magic - Fonts/folder (or the right game subfolder ofOther - Fonts/), select every font file, right-click and choose Install. Skip this and cards render in the wrong typeface.
This matters most for the GitHub 2.1.2 release, which is a program-only zip with no templates or fonts at all. Integrated packages — the community 2.5.8 builds and the Full-Magic-Pack itself — already contain these folders, which is why they work straight after extraction.
