Magic Set Editor Keyboard Shortcuts (from the Program’s Own Definitions)

Most ‘MSE shortcuts’ lists online are copied from other lists, and some of the keys in them were never in the program. This one is different by construction: every shortcut below is taken from Magic Set Editor’s own English locale file — the file in the author’s GitHub repository that defines the program’s menus and the shortcut printed next to each item — cross-checked against the author’s changelog. Where a key is not in those sources, it is not in this article.

File and editing

ShortcutAction
Ctrl+NNew set
Ctrl+OOpen set
Ctrl+SSave set

Ctrl+PPrint
Ctrl+F5Reload data
Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+YUndo / Redo
Ctrl+X / Ctrl+C / Ctrl+VCut / Copy / Paste
Ctrl+ASelect all
Ctrl+F / F3Find / Find next
Ctrl+HReplace
F1Help index

Cards, keywords and finding things fast

ShortcutAction
Ctrl+KSearch cards (and search keywords, on the Keywords tab)
Ctrl+EnterAdd card (Add keyword, on the Keywords tab)
PgUp / PgDnPrevious / next card (or keyword)
Alt+1 … Alt+7Jump to tabs: Cards, Style, Set Information, Keywords, Statistics, Random Packs, Console

Ctrl+K deserves a note: the author’s changelog for version 2.1.0 records it as that release’s added search shortcut, and the quick search box it focuses is more powerful than it looks — the same changelog documents field-specific searches, so typing type:Wizard finds cards with Wizard in the type field. Searching by field, rarity or colour text turns the card list into a fast editing queue when you are fixing a whole set.

Formatting text

ShortcutAction
Ctrl+BBold
Ctrl+IItalic
Ctrl+MSymbols (toggle symbol input)
Ctrl+RReminder text

These four cover most rules-text work: bold and italic for emphasis, Ctrl+M when you are entering mana and other symbols, and Ctrl+R around reminder text. In the Statistics tab, the graph style itself has menu keys — 1 to 5 switch between pie, bar, stacked bars, scatter plot and scatter-pie views.

An honest caveat about versions

The menu definitions above come from the program’s English locale file as published in the author’s repository (the file’s own header dates it 2020). The author’s program line ends at 2.1.2, and community builds distributed since then are maintained by the community — a given community package could, in principle, adjust a menu. If a key ever disagrees with your copy, trust the menu in front of you: the shortcut printed beside a menu item is the program telling you its own answer.
