Empowering Card Designers
Since 2005

The Magic Set Editor (MSE) Community Hub is a non-profit, volunteer-driven project dedicated to preserving and advancing the world’s premier open-source card design engine. Our mission is to provide a stable, high-definition environment for creators to bring their tabletop visions to life.

OPEN SOURCE β€’ COMMUNITY DRIVEN β€’ NON-PROFIT

A Legacy of Innovation

Magic Set Editor began as a passion project by the developer Twan in the mid-2000s. It revolutionized the hobby by moving away from static image templates to a dynamic, script-based engine.

As the original development slowed, the MSE Community stepped in. Over the last two decades, dozens of contributors have maintained the code, updated the scripting console, and created thousands of frames to keep pace with the ever-evolving Trading Card Game industry.

Today, in 2026, the Community Hub serves as the definitive guardian of this legacy, ensuring the software remains compatible with modern operating systems and high-resolution printing standards.

GPL-2.0 Freedom

MSE is released under the GNU General Public License. This means the software is, and always will be, free to use, modify, and distribute. We believe that the tools for creativity should never be locked behind a paywall.

πŸ›‘οΈ

Local & Private

Unlike modern web-based tools, MSE is a desktop-first application. Your sets, card data, and custom scripts remain on your machine. No tracking, no forced cloud-sync, and 100% offline functionality.

🧩

Extensible Design

The power of MSE lies in its modular data structure. Every game engine and frame is an open script that you can edit. This flexibility has allowed the community to support over 50 different TCGs.

“Our goal is not to compete, but to preserve the most versatile toolkit ever built for custom card designers.”
